This tracking device alters the heat of the room in relation to the proximity of the person to the device. Tracking movement, much like the GPS systems in phones, is supposed to generate a more personalized interaction between the user and the space, mediated by the tracker.
What could be explored here is the idea of a third element, which in this image is subtly suggested by the red light emanating from the device and coloring the person’s face. The red light, which is the colorization of heat, I would argue is actually the mediator in this interaction. Although in this installation, the heat is a function of the device and serves a purpose: to heat the room and serves the same kind of functions as HVAC systems, in this respect.
The third element could be heat as interference, with the user interacting with the room or another user.
