A Specter in an Immersive Environment


This installation by Bess Krietemeyer/Center for Architecture, Science and Ecology (CASE) uses Kinect motion sensors and overlaps with individual pattern designs to create visual effects. The viewing ‘portal’, which looks like a pupil on the wall, tracks a participant. This pupil is like another active participant with its specter-like qualities of blending into the surrounding projected context.

The specter in this installation follows the user, as does the pupil which follows the object that the mind studies. A specter meanders through the past while it interacts with a person in the present. What happens when these two timelines meet?
